CFA has a role in several aspects of the planning process in Victoria. Our role is to provide expert advice to councils and the Minister for Planning to ensure that new communities can be serviced by emergency services in the event of a fire. We also provide bushfire hazard advice to ensure that risks to life, property and infrastructure are considered as part of the planning process.

CFA's involvement in the planning process

CFA is involved in two main stages of the planning process: the statutory planning phase, including advice on subdivision, and strategic planning phase.

CFA also works closely with event organisers to make sure events in high bushfire risk areas of Victoria are planned and managed appropriately. Sometimes CFA is required to comment on planning permit applications.
