CFA has free lesson plans and resources to help primary school educators teach fire safety. These easy-to-use materials follow the Victorian curriculum and help students learn how to stay safe from home fires and bushfires.

Building fire safety skills early

CFA provides resources to help primary school educators teach important fire safety skills from a young age. With our curriculum-aligned lesson plans, students can learn:

How to prevent fires at home
What an emergency is and how to respond
What firefighters do
Why working smoke alarms are important
Why families need home fire escape plans, and how to leave safely during a fire
Why bushfires happen and how families can get prepared.

Additional resources

Students can also use our fact sheets for research or school projects. Topics include home fire safety, CFA firefighters, and the Ash Wednesday Fires.

CFA programs for primary school students

Fire Wise Kids

Fire Wise Kids offers five lessons delivered by CFA for kindergarten and primary school students, to teach kids fire safety. The program aligns with the Victorian curriculum (F-10 V2).
