After taking care of family and loved ones, many people choose to leave a bequest to a cause that reflects their values. Leaving a bequest to CFA in your Will is a meaningful way to support CFA's mission of protecting the lives and property of the Victorian community for years to come.

Even a small bequest can make a difference in the services our volunteers deliver to Victorian communities.

This page provides general information for individuals considering a bequest to CFA in their Will, and practical drafting details for solicitors assisting clients to achieve this. This information is general in nature and is not legal or financial advice. We strongly encourage supporters to seek independent legal advice when preparing or updating their Will.

For Individuals

Why make a bequest to CFA in your Will?

Leaving a bequest to CFA in your Will can help create a lasting impact beyond your lifetime. Bequests of all sizes provide additional resources to CFA, to respond to future operational demands and continue delivering programs which support our organisation and our volunteers in their vital work for the Victorian community.

  • A bequest to CFA can sit alongside gifts to family, friends and other beneficiaries.
  • You may choose a bequest that fits your circumstances and priorities.
  • Your legacy can help future generations benefit from the work of CFA and its volunteers.
  • You can continue supporting a cause that matters deeply to you.

Types of bequests in Wills

There are several ways to leave a bequest to CFA in your Will. Common options include:

  • Specific bequest - a particular asset, such as shares, property or other valuable items.
  • Percentage bequest - a nominated percentage of your estate.
  • Pecuniary bequest - a fixed sum of money.
  • Residual bequest - all or part of the remainder of your estate after expenses, debts and other bequests have been paid.

How to include a bequest to CFA in your Will

  • Decide what type of bequest you would like to leave.
  • Speak with your solicitor.
  • Use the correct organisational details for CFA, including its full legal name, ABN and registered address.
  • Our preference is for a bequest to be for CFA’s general purposes, rather than to a specific brigade or purpose. *

* We ask that you consider making a general bequest because CFA and the community’s needs can change over time and this allows us to utilise your generous bequest in the most appropriate manner.

If you decide otherwise to list a specific brigade, or for your bequest to be used towards a particular need, CFA asks that you consider including additional wording. This is because the specific purpose may no longer be practical or possible. Leaving a bequest for ‘general purposes’ to our Public Fund (see below) is the best way to ensure you are supporting our work into the future.
