Short URL Creation - Instructions

NOTE: Short URLs that direct to Members Online should be created in the Members Online Short URL folder.

To create a short URL, right click on the folder "Short URLs" and select "Add Article".

*Please make sure you name the 'Admin Name' and 'Article Name' the same name as the short URL.

For example "cfa.vic.gov.au/annualreport" - the "Admin Name" and "Article Name" should be "annualreport".

1) To add the link (where the short URL goes to) - expand the "Content Type and Stylesheet" and select either:

• Link to another article or folder in the system OR
• Link to a URL

depending if you are wanting to link to a page on the same website or external site.

2) To add the short URL - expand the "Redirect Link", under "Alias/Old Links", add the short URL in the box and click 'add'.

3) Make sure under METAdata > Meta Tags > Check the boxes for "noarchive", "nofollow" and "noindex".

Click on "draft" to save page and you will need to go in again at times to check the Redirect Link menu to publish the article.

CFA Email Banners - Google Analytics Tracking

To track data on user clicks, add UTMs (Urchin Tracking Module) to the Email Banner's URL.

Here's an example of a URL with its own UTM code highlighted at the end of the URL below:

• https://www.members.cfa.vic.gov.au/programs/child-safety?utm_source=cfa-email-internal-banner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=child-safety
• https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/about-us/who-we-are/cfa-medals/spirit-of-cfa-awards?utm_source=cfa-email-external-banner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=spirit-of-cfa-awards

The information provided will help categorized the data in Google Analytics. There are three information fields to fill in.

• utm_source:
  • For Internal Banners: cfa-email-internal-banner
  • For External Banners: cfa-email-external-banner
• utm_medium:
  • For Internal and External Banners: email
• utm_campaign:
  • For Internal and External Banners: 'Enter name of campaign being promoted'

Retrieving data from Google Analytics

To find the data, follow the steps below:

1. Select the Google Analytics account associated with Email Banner's URL - members or public site
2. Using the left hand navigation, follow the path Reports > Campaigns > All Campaigns
