Truck Time is a hands-on experience where children can see a fire truck, watch a fire hose demonstration and meet a firefighter in person.
What children will learn
Children will become more familiar with:
- firefighters
- fire equipment including fire hoses, sirens and trucks
- the role of firefighting.
Who is it for?
Truck time is designed for kinder and primary school-aged children and their families.
It can be booked by early childhood educators, schools or community groups. Local CFA brigades also run Truck Time for the general public at events like Brigade Open Days.
Why Truck Time exists
Children who haven't been around firefighters and fire trucks can be afraid of them in an emergency. If they hide or run away in a fire they can be harder to rescue.
Having the opportunity to meet a firefighter and see a fire truck may make children more likely to respond positively to fire services in an emergency.
What happens during the session?
Truck Time sessions give children the opportunity to:
- meet a firefighter
- explore a fire truck
- see and hear the sirens
- watch fire hoses being used
- look at firefighting equipment.
Truck Time can take place at community events, school fetes, fire brigade open days, kinders and schools.
Program cost
Truck Time is free.
Who delivers Truck Time
