Who is it for?
Kindergarten and primary school students; 4 to 10 years old. Different lessons are available for each age group and are based on developmental levels.
Why Fire Wise Kids exists
Fire Wise Kids is designed to give children age-appropriate information about fire safety, including how to help prevent fires starting. This is important as children under 12 are at high risk during a home fire or bushfire.
What happens in a lesson?
Fire Wise Kids lessons take place with a teacher present, in a classroom.
Trained CFA members deliver lessons which are designed for the developmental age of the children.
Alignment to Victorian Curriculum
Each lesson has been designed to be developmentally appropriate and aligns to the the Fire Wise Kids links to Victorian Curriculum F-10 V.2 (PDF 484.3KB).
Program cost
Fire Wise Kids is free.
Child Safety
CFA is a child safe organisation. All CFA members trained to deliver this program have undertaken child safety training and hold a current Working with Children Check. CFA members deliver the program in pairs and teachers remain in attendance at all times.
Fire Wise Kids can be run in kindergartens and schools.

Truck Time
Truck Time is CFA’s hands-on fire truck and equipment experiential program for children. Fire Wise Kids is not delivered on the same day as Truck Time, as research shows that children do not remember the important fire safety messages delivered in classrooms when the truck activity is delivered on the same day. We recommend requesting Truck Time for end of term events or school wide fetes instead.
