Fire Wise Kids

Fire Wise Kids offers five lessons delivered by CFA for kindergarten and primary school students, to teach kids fire safety. The program aligns with the Victorian curriculum (F-10 V2).

Who is it for?

Kindergarten and primary school students; 4 to 10 years old. Different lessons are available for each age group and are based on developmental levels.

Why Fire Wise Kids exists

Fire Wise Kids is designed to give children age-appropriate information about fire safety, including how to help prevent fires starting. This is important as children under 12 are at high risk during a home fire or bushfire.

What happens in a lesson

Fire Wise Kids lessons take place with a teacher present, in a classroom.

Two trained CFA members deliver lessons which are designed for the developmental age of the children. A variety of physical and digital resources are used to communicate messages to the children.

Program cost

Fire Wise Kids is free.

Child Safety

CFA is a child safe organisation. All CFA members trained to deliver this program have undertaken child safety training and have a current Working with Children Check.

Other CFA programs for schools

CFA delivers Schools in Fire Country for students in years 5 and 6.

Truck time is available for kinder and primary school aged children. Truck Time is not delivered on the same day as Fire Wise Kids. Research shows that children do not remember the important fire safety messages delivered in classrooms when the truck activity is delivered on the same day. We recommend requesting Truck Time for end of term events or school fetes instead.

Fire Wise Kids can be run in kindergartens and schools within CFA boundaries.

This is a new program and CFA is currently training members to deliver the program, so there may be limited availability depending on your location.
