Anyone who works in or travels through high bushfire risk areas over summer, including:
- community and social service workers
- disability and aged care support workers, case managers and care coordinators
- health workers, including District Nurses

- justice and corrections employees
- tradespeople and road crews.
Stay safe on the road in summer
This module is designed for workers who travel to, through or within bushfire risk areas, as well as those who work onsite in bushfire risk areas. It teaches them how to stay safe on the road and what do to if they become caught in a bushfire.
The module helps employers meet their duty of care to keep staff safe.
Topics covered by the module
The online module has four topics:
1. Your Risk - understand bushfire risks.
2. Prepare - how to prepare for travelling before and during bushfire season.
3. Travel - how to stay safe when driving in high risk areas through summer.
4. Survive - what to do if you become caught in a bushfire in your car or in a building.
Suitable for induction or professional development
This module can be done during workplace induction or as professional development for individuals over time.
CFA recommends making it compulsory for employees who will be travelling through high risk bushfire areas.
Refresher training part of the module. Each year, workers can check what they know and go over anything they need to improve.
Under the OHS Act (2004) it is the duty of an employer to give employees ‘the necessary information, instruction, training or supervision to enable them to do their work in a way that is safe and without risks to health'.
How to do the module
Online, anytime
This resource is an online learning module which is available for you to complete anytime. It is free and takes around an hour, but you can always stop and save your progress and come back to finish it another time.
We recommend doing the module on a laptop or PC, not on your tablet or phone. It will also work best using Google Chrome as your browser.
What to expect
The module includes videos with subtitles, and quizzes to test your knowledge as you go. You will need to have basic reading and writing skills to do it.
You can access a certificate of completion at the end to say you have done the module.

You will need to create a free account with CFA to access the module. You will be asked to register with your email address and verify your account via email before you can log in.
With a CFA Learning Hub account, you can save your progress as you go and gain access to a range of CFA online learning modules.

In-person group sessions
