The 2025/2026 summer fire season began in October 2025 and intensified in early January, with Catastrophic conditions declared across four weather districts.
More than 436,000 hectares of land were burnt, including over 1,590 structures.
At the heart of the response were CFA volunteers, working tirelessly to protect their communities. Many responded to multiple incidents while balancing work, farming, family and community commitments, all during Victoria’s longest heatwave since 2009.
This fire season placed sustained demand on Victoria’s fire and emergency services. Across the state, CFA members have met that demand head on.
