Smartphone app

Watch a video tutorial of the smartphone app.

This comprehensive application puts CFA and Department of Sustainability & Environment (DSE) bushfire information at your fingertips, enabling access to up-to-date bushfire warnings and advice when you're out and about.

Mobile website

The mobile internet versions of the key CFA pages (Warnings & Advice, Incidents, Fire Danger Ratings, Total Fire Ban, Victorian Bushfire Information Line and Can I Can't I) have been specifically designed for mobile phones.

This means they will load faster and consume less data than accessing websites designed for viewing on a computer. Information will also be easier to view and navigate in a smaller screen.

Visit this URL in your phone's browser:

Tips

Mobile Web Browsers

A mobile browser lets you view sites and services on your phone, just like desktop browsers Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. Your phone might already have a mobile browser, or you can download one.

Entering a mobile site address on your phone

Enter the address or URL of a mobile internet site can be different on every mobile phone. For specific instructions for entering the address of a mobile internet site refer to your mobile phone manual or visit your service provider.

Bookmarking a mobile site address

To make it easier to find a mobile internet site again you can 'bookmark', save or 'add' a mobile internet site to your mobile.

  1. Go to the page you want to bookmark, save or add as a favourite
  2. Select 'Options', 'Menu' or 'More' (wording varies depending on your mobile)
  3. Select 'Bookmarks', 'Favourites' or 'Tools'
  4. Select 'Add Bookmark' or 'Add Favourite'

Once you have bookmarked a mobile internet site, simply open your list of bookmarks / favourites and select the link you want to go to. Your phone may ask you to 'connect to the network' or 'connect to the server', if it does select 'Yes'.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Will it work on my phone? CFA's Mobile Website passes the W3C mobileOK Checker

A: Your phone must be 'internet-enabled'. Check to see if your mobile phone supports mobile internet access by either checking the features listed in the manual or contacting your service provider.

Q: Can I access the CFA mobile site whilst I'm overseas?

A: You can use your mobile phone to access the mobile internet overseas on networks that offer this service. However make sure you check with your mobile carrier before you travel.

Q: Why are some sites so slow?

A: It can depend on your mobile and the connection speed available on the network at the time. Mobile internet site access times depend on the size and graphical content of the website. Sites with more text than pictures load faster.

Q: I keep getting error messages?

A: Errors may be caused by poor network reception, so it's always worth trying to use the service again later.
