As part of the recruitment process, applicants take part in a Beep Test and Firefighter Challenge Test. These tests are chosen as they simulate the physical and ability requirements of a career firefighter.
Firefighting can be a physically and emotionally demanding job, including dragging hoses, climbing ladders or lugging equipment up steep inclines. An adequate level of strength, fitness and endurance is mandatory for the role.
