Living with Fire (formerly Fire Ready Victoria Strategy)

People who live in a high fire risk area need to develop a practical bushfire survival plan and be prepared.

Living with Fire is a joint agency initiative, involving strategies for community development, communication, education and empowerment in relation to wildfire and planned burning in Victoria. Implementation activities incorporate a range of communication campaigns, educational programs, community development programs and engagement activities across the wildfire PPRR continuum.

As part of Living with Fire CFA currently delivers:

Fire Ready Victoria Meeting
  • Fire Ready Victoria Preparedness Meetings and Community Meetings - Interactive community meetings on street corners, or in local halls and fire stations that focus on basic bushfire behaviour, personal safety, house survival and recognition of local risk. Search for a list of scheduled meetings
  • Bushfire Planning Workshops - Facilitated workshops are run in local communities to assist residents in developing a bushfire survival plan.
  • Community Fireguard - Specially trained facilitators assist community groups to develop bushfire survival strategies that suit their lifestyle, environment and values. See Community Fireguard
  • Media campaigns - including print and electronic media.

Living with Fire is underpinned by evidenced based research as all partners contribute the specialist knowledge and skills of their organisation to the broader goals of a strong resilient and fire safe Victoria.
