Safety Programs

Reduce the Risk | Early Fire Safe | Isolated Elderly

CFA presenters deliver a number of community based home fire safety workshops that are suitable for different audiences.

The Reduce the Risk presentation focuses on ways to prevent a residential house fire by looking at the common causes of house fires, and what action to take to reduce the risk in your home.

The Early Fire Safe program is suitable for parents and carers of children in the 0-5 age group and looks at why this group of children are particularly vulnerable to burn and scald injuries, and what parents can do to prevent them occurring.

The Isolated Elderly program is targeted to those who support people in the community who are isolated due to age or disability. Groups such as home care workers, district nurses and palliative carers have participated in the program to learn strategies to make their clients’ homes more fire safe.

All presentations are delivered free of charge to community groups such as senior citizens groups, service clubs, multicultural groups, new parent groups and home carers. Sessions are designed to be interactive, with plenty of opportunity for discussion and questions.

All participants receive free printed fire safety literature to take home and share with other family members. Some fire safety literature is also available in languages other than English.

To book a presentation, contact the Community Education Co-ordinator at your CFA Area office.

Find the Your Home Fire Safety brochure in the Home Safety page of the Publications section.
