Isolated Elderly

The Isolated Elderly Program provides education on fire safety for carers and service providers of elderly people. Carers are then able to assist those who are isolated and/or elderly in the community to improve fire safety in their home.

The Isolated Elderly Program is a partnership between CFA and elderly carer organisations. The program highlights the factors that make the elderly vulnerable to fire related deaths and injury and encourages carers to provide advice and develop strategies suitable for individual clients.

The program covers fire prevention and awareness. The carers' awareness in injury and fall prevention enables them to deliver a comprehensive safety program to the elderly.

Groups who have participated in an Isolated Elderly session in the past include home care workers, District Nurses and palliative carers.

The two hour workshop is delivered free of charge by trained CFA presenters. Each participant is provided with a Carer's Guide Flipchart and associated CFA fire safety literature at the conclusion of the program.

To book an Isolated Elderly presentation or for more information, contact the Community Education Co-ordinator at your nearest CFA Area office.
