Municipal Fire Prevention - Best Practice Review

The scope of the Best Practice Review was to review fire prevention planning within the current context, enabling identification of best practices as well as areas requiring improvement. In addition, the review sought to facilitate continuous learning through the sharing of knowledge, thereby increasing the value for stakeholders of municipal fire prevention planning.

The principle aims of the Best Practice Review were to:

  • Identify current practice in relation to municipal fire prevention planning, including roles and responsibilities, processes and structures;
  • Review the implementation of the Guidelines; and
  • Identify best practice opportunities for improvement of the municipal fire prevention planning process, polices and structures.

The specific objectives of the Best Practice Review were to:

  • Ensure stakeholder input into the improvement of municipal fire prevention planning process;
  • Promote and increase partnerships between stakeholders of the municipal fire prevention planning process;
  • Promote and develop an understanding of Risk Management principles within the municipal fire prevention planning process; and
  • To encourage a strategic and coordinated approach to municipal fire prevention planning.
