Much more than a great fire serviceVolunteers

CFA is one of the world's largest volunteer emergency service and community safety organisations. CFA is based on community involvement and gains its strength from the commitment of local people.

  • Approximately 58,000 volunteers
  • 1228 brigades
  • Supported by over 1,100 paid staff, including over 500 career firefighters, providing emergency response and community safety programs throughout Victoria
  • Looking after all regional and country areas throughout Victoria, including Melbourne's rapidly growing outer urban areas

CFA does a lot more than fight fires, it's involved with:

  • Rescues, including road rescue and hazmat incidents
  • Education programs
  • Community safety activities and programs, including Community Meetings and Community Fireguard and many local community activities
  • Community building and community support, providing a vital partnership for the Victorian community

Our career options cover a large range of positions from firefighting to finance. We have regional offices and staffed stations across Victoria.

Men and women from many walks of life are CFA volunteer firefighters and support volunteers. Volunteers include the self-employed, mothers at home, part time workers, shift workers, people looking for work, retirees, trades people and professionals.
