You can now download an Application pack for the 2009 Firefighter Recruit Course
When can I apply for the role of Career Firefighter?
Candidates can lodge an application all year round and will remain
in the database for a 12 month period from the submission date.
Prior to the Recruit Course intake each year there will be a
Closing date announced. Applicants will then be chosen on an "order
of merit" basis to attend the relevant stages of the process
when a recruit course intake has been announced.

Previous Applicants
Those applicants who have previously attempted the CFA recruitment
process can apply for re-entry to the database.
Some exemptions from certain stages of the process may apply.
Acceptance of applications from previous candidates will fluctuate
from time to time and will be assessed based on how much new information
has been submitted with the new application.
*Previous candidates with 3 unsuccessful attempts at interview may be required to wait out a 2 year period from the last unsuccessful attempt before applying again. If you fit within this category it is suggested you contact the Firefighter Recruitment Consultant before submitting your application. (see booklet for more

Role of a career Firefighter
A challenging and rewarding career is offered by CFA, with
a high level of job satisfaction and the opportunity to create
a safer community.
We are looking for women and men, with diverse backgrounds
to serve our multi-cultural community. The positions involve
shift work and can be physically, mentally and emotionally
demanding.
Comprehensive training will be provided in the first few
months of your career to provide you with the necessary firefighting
and emergency skills - these are not a prerequisite for selection.
CFA is seeking firefighters with personal integrity, community
orientation, acceptance of responsibility and who enjoy working
as part of a team. The work of a CFA firefighter also includes:
- Fire suppression, prevention and safety
- Providing a high standard of response to a range of
emergency situations including fires and workplace accidents,
chemical spills, etc.
- Training and support of volunteer firefighters
- Conducting training and education for local businesses,
schools and the general community
- Operating communications equipment
- Training in the use of fire equipment
- Checking water supplies and maintenance of firefighting
equipment and fire stations
- Administrative duties
