Firefighter Pay Rates

NOTE:

  • These pay rates are effective from March 2008
  • Recruit Firefighter wage paid during the recruit course
  • Movement from Firefighter Level 1 to Qualified Firefighter requires 12 months service at the previous level plus the attainment of relevant competencies

Firefighters in full uniforms during Graduation DayHours of Work

Firefighters work a 10/14-shift roster. Two day shifts from 8am – 6pm followed by 2 night shifts from 6pm – 8am followed by 4 shifts of the same off.

Annual Leave

Firefighters receive nine weeks rostered annual leave per year.

Criminal Record Check

If successful as a career firefighter you will be required to authorise that a Criminal Record Check be conducted. Employment as a Recruit Firefighter is dependant on this check being acceptable to CFA.

Locations

CFA has a wide spread of fire stations across Victoria, and the specific location of employment will be dependant upon where the demand for vacancies arises.

Probationary Employment

Ongoing employment as a career firefighter is subject to satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period.
