Your Bushfire Survival Plan

Welcome to 'My Plan'

Prepare.Act.Survive.

Be FireReady

'My Plan' will help you to easily create your personal or family Fire Plan. You can also complete and share 'My Plan' on Facebook.

Why do I need a plan?

In a bushfire or grassfire, people may be confused, disoriented and physically or psychologically stressed. In these conditions, making sound decisions becomes very difficult. A written and well-practiced plan will help you remember what steps to take during a crisis.

Completing 'My Plan'

Completing My Plan can be done quickly and easily below. Once you've completed all five sections below, we recommend downloading and printing your Fire Plan and keeping it in a safe place. You should also discuss your plan with family members and neighbours.

'My Plan' can be broken into 5 simple sections below;

Step 1 - Actions Before the Fire Season, Trigger to Leave
Make a decision about when to leave, where to go, how to get there, when to return and what to do if you cannot leave. Leaving early is always the safest option.
Step 2 - What to Take, My Relocation Kit
Make sure you have a Relocation Kit accessible at all times, even on outings. Consider the needs of the elderly, people with special needs, children, pets and/or livestock.
Step 3 - Preparing My Property Before and During Bushfire Season
This section covers action you should undertake before and during the bushfire season. Use this section as a checklist for preparing your home or property.
Step 4 - Before I Leave
Actions leading up to days where a fire danger rating of severe, extreme or code red is predicted - Always consider the circumstances of the day. Remember a fire can occur at any time, when kids are at school, when you are at work and your plan needs to consider this.
Step 5 - If My Plan Fails
In recent fires, people who planned to leave took longer to get ready than they had expected. This resulted in them being delayed and leaving when fire was upon them - often with tragic consequences. Ask yourselves: What is my plan to survive if it is too late or unsafe to leave my property?
