Community Fireguard - bushfire planning with your neighbours.
Establish or join a bushfire planning group in your street or neighbourhood through the Community Fireguard program.
Community Fireguard is for people living in high risk bushfire areas. The program helps you and your neighbours prepare for bushfire.
Meetings
- Small groups of neighbours discuss bushfire risk and prepare bushfire plans
- Trained CFA facilitators visit groups to lead the meetings and answer questions
- Meetings are informal and usually held at a group member’s home
- Groups decide how often they will meet. Most groups will meet once a fortnight to cover the first six sessions.
Topics
- Bushfire planning for the whole household
- Property preparation
- Fire Danger Ratings and warnings
- Bushfire behaviour - basic understanding
- Local issues and needs

Contact your regional CFA headquarters and ask for the Community Fireguard Coordinator. They will put you in touch with a local group or help you establish one for your street.
Community Fireguard is an ongoing program.
CFA can provide extra sessions, catch-up sessions for new members, refresher sessions or yearly briefings.
Many groups stay in touch independently of CFA, establish local 'phone trees', and work together to prepare for the fire season.
Not for you?
