Used for fires involving wood, paper, and plastics. It is dangerous to use these on flammable liquid, electrical equipment, cooking oil and fat fires.

Dry Chemical

ABE Powder:
Used for fires involving wood, paper, plastic, flammable and combustible liquids but not cooking oils or fats. Also can be used for flammable gases and electrical equipment.

BE Powder:
Useful for fires involving flammable and combustible liquids, flammable gases and electrical equipment.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Useful for fires involving electrical equipment. In windy conditions not suitable for outdoor use, as the wind may have an effect on the efficiency of the extinguisher in putting the fire out.

Hose Reel

Usually found in buildings over 500 square metres and special risk locations such as schools, hotels, hospitals, car parks, warehouses and workshops, factories, theatres and concert halls. Extends 36 metres and is connected to main water supply.

Fire Hose

Extends 30 metres with a diameter of either 64 or 38 mm. The hose is connected to a fire main system via a hydrant (often refered to as 'millcock') and a nozzle is attached to the end of the hose that enables the operator to control the direction of water onto the fire.

Fire blankets are made out of fire resistant fabric and are used to smother flames caused through cooking or clothing fires. They should be located in the kitchen (away from the stove), preferably between the stove and the kitchen exit. Once used in a fire they should be replaced.
