Following the tragic Ash Wednesday fires of 1983, CFA established a Memorial Wall dedicated to the men and women of CFA who have lost their lives while serving their communities.
Construction of the Memorial Wall at Fiskville was completed in December 1986. It was dedicated by the CFA Chaplain and officially opened by the Premier of Victoria on 12 April 1987.
The Memorial is in the form of a reflective pool and natural stone wall set in a landscaped garden situated in front of the teaching centre. The plaques are mounted on the stone wall.
Each plaque shows the name, fire brigade and date of the incident of each CFA fire fighter who has lost their life since the inception of CFA in 1944. These plaques and the events that led to them, underlines the bravery shown by our members, ordinary Victorians, who year after year, voluntarily risk their lives in the battle to protect the community.
There are now 64 plaques on the wall.
